This wiki includes information about this year's lobbying efforts. The sections below give a brief description, and the links take you to more information, such as for directions and parking.

PLAD 2009 Agenda

What is SC Public Library Appreciation Day (PLAD)?

The current economic outlook for next year in South Carolina is not good. This year, we are taking our lobbying efforts to the State House to thank legislators for past support and ask for continued support.

Participants will need to be able to walk a good bit and climb steps. Libraries may wish to make appropriate arrangements to ensure that supporters with limited mobility can get to State House (e.g., wheel chair access). With advance notice, we may be able to get volunteers that can assist supporters in getting to the event and through security.

Where do we go on PLAD Day?

We have made arrangements to get some city parking meters covered on the 1300 block of Senate Street. There are a limited number of spaces, so it is a very good idea to carpool. There may also be metered spaces (NOT free - bring quarters) in the parking structure at Bull St and Pendleton.

We have reserved room 101/110 in the Blatt building at 8:30am as a meeting place. We will have stickers, crossed ribbons, and talking points here. Library supporters can also get these items at the State House.

How long will it take?

We anticipate that it will take two hours. We will do the following tasks:

  • Meet at the State House around 9:15 - 9:30
  • Distribute ribbons and stickers to legislators as they arrive (2nd floor)
  • Talk to legislators about the critical role that public libraries have in the current economy
  • Attend a public meeting at or around 10:00am (1st floor)
  • Visit each gallery to be recognized by the members of the House and Senate (2nd floor)
  • Deliver items to legislator offices (Blatt and Gressette buildings)
  • Fill out a debrief form and return it to volunteers

Senate and House of Representatives Recognition

**We will ask members of both chambers to recognize library supporters. As time and place details are set, we will post them here.**
